i SUDDENLY GOT REALLY MAD AT THAT CAN YOU TELL I NEED SLEEP YET
oH GOD PEOPLE ARE REBLOGGING THIS
on windows computers, if you open up command prompt and put in
net stop wuauserv
that’ll kill the autorestart
That IS a really obnoxious and potentially dangerous feature. I mean seriously, who’s idea was that. Someone whothinks users need to be spoonfed and are incapable of doing anything on their own, i suppose.
What if i was in the middle of something, had photoshop open with work in progress, and went out to the kitchen to make a snack, then came back to find my pc restarted? I would be pissed. 15 minutes is hardly any time at all to warn someone.
Saving often is supposed to be a defense against accidents happening, not against the normal operations of windows. What world are we living in. The police used to watch over the people, now they’re watching the people.
Ahem. Sorry, but this post on my dash was a perfect opportunity for me to say how stupid that feature is and how much it bothers me that it exists. >:G
From the perspective of a systems security administrator, it’s actually a very, very useful and extremely necessary feature. I’m almost positive that if these types of alerts wouldn’t ever pop up, then we’d have exponentially more cases of outdated and unpatched versions of Windows, which would lead to a hardcore increase in virus and malware outbreaks.
Yeah, I agree that it sucks whenever this type of thing pops up, but it’s on the burden of the user to make sure that all work is saved and no data is lost if accidents happen, such as a power outage (desktop) or an automatic update.
These updates happen because they’re 100% more important for the computer than anything anyone could ever be working on. If something is of absolute detrimental importance that supersedes a computer’s security, chances are that the user isn’t going to be letting that computer sit alone for more than 30 seconds.
But as for this wiping out hard work, I’ve been on that end. Damn windows update erased over 6 hours of work in After Effects once. It’s one of those things that can only be (unfortunately) chalked up to user error. =/
I made a blinking heart for my girlfriend, cinna-bunnie. I had this idea for a while now, but had to wait for my assload of LEDs to arrive via mail.
have you ever done something so dumb you just feel like
3, 4, 6, 26, 29 :D
Best game you’ve ever played?
Man, that’s a tough one—either Tomba! 2 or Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. SotN definitely has more replayability, so I’d say Castlevania.
Worst game you’ve ever played?
Alfred Chicken. I don’t even know why that game is in my collection.
A game that’s changed you the most?
Handheld or console?
I like both to be honest, although the consoles I like are only the “retro” ones up until the GCN. Since I’ve always like handhelds and still like the ones coming out, I’d have to go with handheld.
Which is more important, gameplay or story?
Story. Story story story. Gameplay is important, but I personally prefer the development of the story to be more immersive and thrilling.
